About Us

Mission Statement

The Humane League of Lake Lanier (HLLL) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit, public-benefit corporation dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless pets as well as the lives of people through the human bond with their pets. We are committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of pets, and to their successful placement into new, forever-loving homes.

The Faces Behind the Humane League of Lake Lanier

We’re your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers. We’re college students, working moms, retired professionals. We live on sprawling farms, quaint cottages, and small apartments. We’re a diverse group of people who saw the same thing—animals being mistreated and discarded—and we wanted to do something about it.

We don’t have a shelter facility or full-time staff. But with your help, we’re able to give a little of our time and a lot of our love to help these animals. Our shared passion helps save these abandoned and unloved animals, and promotes a better quality of life for all pets.

Our Success

Since our founding in 2005, the Humane League has been actively promoting animal welfare in our community.  Sometimes we may be organizing and participating in community events.  Sometimes we may be working with our local government to promote anti-chaining laws or other public policy that impacts animal welfare.  We focus our efforts wherever we can make a difference.

In addition to initiatives that help our furry friends on a broad scale, the work our group does saving, rehabilitating, and rehoming individual animals is closest to our hearts.  Over the past decade we have helped over a thousand abandoned and unloved pets find forever homes.  View a full list of the pets we have placed.

Many of our adopting families stay in touch with us and keep us posted on how their new family members are doing.  View our Happy Tails!
