has been blessed with the support of many hardworking volunteers
and the dogs and cats in our program have been blessed with wonderful, loving adoptive families. Some
families have been so kind as to write a poem or testimonial describing the joy filling their lives with
the addition of their rescue pet. I hope these stories fill your heart and put a smile on your face.
Choosing to rescue a pet brings a lifetime of joy to so many!

Angie and I wanted to send you some photos of Ries and Roo. They're basically partners in crime now, and they love playing/antagonizing each other...endlessly.
Thanks,

Hi Beth!
We thought you would want to see some pictures of Arana (the kids re-named her Allie when we got home that day). She is a true joy and a wonderful addition to our family (even the cat thinks so!).
We took these over the weekend in our backyard. Allie is well on her way to agility champion - she loves the "jumping through the hula-hoop game" and running around like a banshee.
Thank you again for all your help.
All the best,
The Campbells

Tyger, the brindle boxer, is pictured here with his new buddy Kolsch.
Ty was one of the purebred boxer puppies that came to us in spring of 2008. His litter had to be bottle fed because they were so small at that time. One of our other foster dogs, Mrs. Muffin, stepped in as surrogate mom and helped raise the puppies as if they were her own.

The top picture is of Abby (formerly called Velvet) and my son's Golden Retriever, Nico, taking up the entire sofa in the den. The other was taken by my sister at a family dinner. We were talking and not paying much attention to the dogs and Abby was eyeing Donnie's plate. She is standing on all fours and is still able to rest her chin on the table.

Abbey comfy in her new home
|
Hi Beth,
Just thought I would give you a quick "update" on Zurey---or now known as Abbey. She is doing great and hasn't seem to have any adjustment problems so far. She acts more like a little puppy---constantly wanting to play---full of energy!
I am attaching a couple of pics I took yesterday and today. We do love our new family member, and she seems to like us ok too!
Thanks,
Matthew and Katie |
Chloe and Steven

Beth,
I adopted Chloe this past Saturday and just wanted to let you know she is doing great so far. She is so sweet and so well behaved. She is having fun and I think she is enjoying her new home! I have attached a picture. As soon as I get more pictures I will send some your way. Hope all is way and thank you for such a great dog!!

Dear Mrs. Beth,
Cami is doing great. She is eating, going to the bathroom, and just being a playful
puppy. We are crate training her and she doesn’t really like it that much. We
checked in about training and she has to be a little older to start so we will
hold of on it. Here are a few pictures of her doing some things. We haven’t let
her play with any other dogs yet but she will have some great fun and some
amazing friends. Also, one of her favorite games to play is fetch.
Thank you so much. We will keep you updated.
Love,
Jaiko, Chris, Ondrea, and Aja

Eli Graduate Obedience School
|
Hi Pat and John,
We thought you might get a kick out of seeing Eli's "Graduation" pictures from
his beginner training class. He's doing great and we love him to death.
He's really enjoyed seeing all his Lanier Pet friends when we've gone to
class but we missed seeing you guys. Everyone comments on how well he looks
and that makes us feel great.
Take care,
Lorri, Bob, Lindsay, Thane, and Eli

Beth,
I am glad that you found out more information about Eagle Ranch. If you ever have
any questions about it or would like to know even more please let me know.
FYI she is doing great not pottying in the house. We take her out as much as
possible so she has the opportunity to potty outside and play which works great.
Thanks,
Matthew and Katie

Maddie
|
Hi Pat,
I wanted to send you pictures of Maddie at 1 year. You know, we recently celebrated her birthday
on February 15 – how time flies! She was adorable as a puppy but has grown into a beautiful dog.
At her checkup, she weighed 76 pounds! There’s not a single time that someone doesn’t stop me
when I’m out with her and go on an on about how beautiful she is. She’s very well behaved,
although still considered a young dog. Still gets excited with visitors, but is good about
going to her “rug” when told. She is extremely gentle with the boys and very loving.
Thanks again for choosing us. I tell Maddie all the time, We both hit the jackpot, girl!

Bruschi with Dad and Sera
|
Greeting from RI! I wanted to thank you again for all the work you do. My mother and brother are
thrilled with Tundra - now named Bruschi (pronounced Brewski). The latest report is that he knows
how to sit, shake, lie down and stay with only a week of training under his belt. He had his first
trip to the beach and made "herding" circles in the sand. I am heading to RI this weekend to
celebrate my brother's birthday and cannot wait to see how much he has grown.
Take care,
Kathryn

Sandal snuggling with her buddy
|
Hi Jane:
I just want to let you know that Sandal has settled into our family quite well. She has an optimistic personality
and a sweet disposition. There is a slight mischievous streak, which has mostly taken the form of stealing
items that the baby spit up on. If you catch her stealing and call her name, she is contrite and actually
returns the stolen item to the exact place she found it. Pretty amazing. When she runs down the center
hall of our house, there are just legs flying everywhere. She is gentle and patient with the kids and
quite a snuggler.
Bombay and Trixie seem to have fully accepted her into the dog pack fold as well. At the dog park in our
neighborhood, another dog growled at Sandal for some reason and B&T came right to her defense.

Zoe celebrating Christmas with her family!!
Zoe
Zoe in her model close-up |
Hello Beth & New Friends at the League
I had a great Christmas! I went to Buford to visit Grandma & Grandpa, I went to Canton to meet my Aunt Amy and her
family, and this weekend, I went to Blue Ridge to meet My cousins. They all loved me and even let me stay inside and
walk around their houses. This was a big deal for Grandma & Grandpa to have me in their house! They never let mom &
Aunt Amy have any pets in the house when they were younger. I gave Grandma big kiss, and she said It wasn't that bad!
Mom said that was a big deal, and she was very proud of my behaviour at their house.
I love to take naps on my new sofa! Mom gave me her favorite afgan to share with her. She doesn't like
it when I chew on it, so I have to be careful and only chew it when she is not looking.
They tell me that once I am potty trained that I will be able to sleep with them sometimes.
So, I am trying very hard to let them know when I need to go outside. Since I moved in,
I have had 4 whole days that I did not go in the house. Yesterday it was raining and I just
could not wait for mom to get her coat out of the closet,so I tee-teed on the holiday rug at
the bottom of the stairs. Mom was very understanding and did not even get mad at me.
She took me to the Garage and told me that I could use the bathroom in the Garage when it rains
since I don't like to go outside when it rains. Dad holds the umbrella over me, but it is just too
cold, and wet, so now I can go in the Garage any where I want! My mom & dad are so kool!
I am teething and starting to chew on things. Mom & Dad bought me some really great toys for
teething, and mom rubs my gums in the back to make me feel better.
I have my own toy box, and my very own play pen. I can almost jump out of it already, but it is a
good place for me to stay if mom & dad need to go out of the house for a while or they want me to be
outside with them. I got to help with the yard work last weekend and sat outside and watched dad
rake the yard and mom plant some mums in the back yard. I love my new clothes. when I go places
with mom, everyone always tells me that I am so beautiful. It makes me feel really special that
everyone loves me so much.
Thank you for introducing me to my new parents! I love them so much and
really know that they love me. I hope to see my pictures on the website so hopefully it will encourage
other people to adopt my sisters and brother. I am looking everyday for a nice family for them. Maybe
mom & dad will consider fostering for a while. I hope so! I miss my siblings! I will send more pictures
in a few days. Mom & Dad take pictures of me everyday, so the next time they load them onto the computer,
I will send you some more.
Again, thank you for loving me and helping me meet my parents!
Love,
Zoe

Minnie Pearl in her new home
|
Minnie Pearl has adapted to her new home, she has found the beds, and is
doing well. Our other dog, Snickers, has been a bit put out since he has been an
only child for three years, but I am sure he will adapt. She's a very sweet dog,
still a little shy, but she seems to be adjusting to her new home.
Kind regards,
Steve

Ollie in foster care
|
Hello Jane,
(...)We are so grateful to have Ozzy in our family. We all adore him,
including my husband who literally lays on the carpet with the dog, cuddles him and
speaks in a loving tone and animated voice that is only applied to this dog.
Ozzy definitely has a strong hold on our affection as well as the many friends who
come into our home.(...)
Jane, I wish you an abundance of success finding loving families
for all your precious four-legged creatures who bring so much joy. Keep up your
extraordinary work! All the best to you, in 2008.
With Blessings and Gratitude,
Kim

Crosby hiking with his family!!
Crosby at the beach! |
Hi, Jane!
I hope you are doing well! Just wanted to share some of the latest pictures of Crosby...he has
been a busy boy! We have been hiking a few times, through the pumpkin patch, and last week he
traveled with us to the beach for 5 days at Daufuskie Island. He loved the sand and chasing
after birds in the ocean!
He is settled in well at home and we are absolutely in love with him!
Enjoy!

Maddie and Stone |
I was organizing some photos and thought you might like to see a picture of
Maddie on my Kindergartner's first day of school. He wanted her to wear one
of his school t-shirts to the bus stop. She didn't seem to mind.
She is a great addition to our family. We've begun obedience training, and
it's going well. It'll take some time, though, to break her of pulling on
her leash.

Tristan and his bunny
Tristan learned to shake |
Tristan is a big baby. Such a tenderheart was never found. He loves to do the
Dane Lean, which can easily push you over if you are unprepared. He is loving his new
family. He finally gets the attention he deserves. He still needs to learn a few
manners and leash skills, but all in due time.
Although we miss him here at the Humane League, Tristan is so obvously in love with
his family, we could not be happier. His true personality is coming out more every
day. He really is a wonderful boy!

Buck on the way home
Buck hanging in the clubhouse |
Buck is doing great. He is very happy and making himself more at home
everyday. Our whole neighborhood loves him. I have attached some pictures.
The first one shows Buck in the car on his way home after we picked him up at
PetSmart. The second one shows him sleeping at home his first night. He was
so tired he fell asleep at 7:30 pm and did not move again until 7:30 the next
morning. We do not crate him to sleep because he likes to stretch out. We are
just crating him during the day as needed (usually when we eat). The third and
fourth pictures show Buck playing in the back yard. He actually climbed up the
steps to the slide fort himself and we could not figure out how we were going to
get him down….but he actually climbed down on his own.
Day One: Buck was the perfect Dog. Day Two: He started getting more comfortable
and decided to start trying the steal the kids stuffed animals – they thought it
was funny. He also decided to start stealing clothes out of the laundry hamper.
Day Three: He was so much at home that he decided to try sleeping on the couch –
we had to tell him No. He really listens when you tell him No. He is a Good Dog.
We are very lucky.
By the way, you were right he is a messy drinker. We moved his food and water bowls
from the laundry room to the garage. We thank you so much for Buck. We did not
realize how much we missed having a dog to Love. You are a special person and do
a wonderful thing.
Thanks
Susan

The boys have adjusted to their new home wonderfully. We love having them here,
and they have made the perfect addition to our family. They are all happy and healthy,
plus I believe they like having a little sister to "blame" things on!
Thank you so much!

the family is much more cheerful having Honeybear as part of their everyday!

Echo
Echo and Sophie |
Echo was destined to be part of my family. Picked up by Animal Control, Echo did his
time in the shelter. The Shelter did not call rescue, because they thought, certainly
this little tail-wagger would get adopted quickly! Through no fault of the dog's, no
family was able to choose him, in spite of his smiling and inquisive little face, so off to rescue he went!
I was not so sure he was the dog for us at first (we really wanted a Collie). But
apparently, we did not have a say in the matter. Not-so-social Sophie (the queen of
our little castle) made fast friends with the little guy, which told us he was something
special (the picture was taken 3 hours after Sophie and Echo met. If you knew Sophie,
you would know what a miracle their friendship is!). He earned his name by shadowing
around the house behind Sophie, doing EVERYTHING
she did; hence, Echo. He has not only stolen our hearts, but that of every visitor he
meets. Our lives are blessed with the addition of the scraggly little pound puppy.
Our family would not be complete without him!
Thank you!
Andrea

Itsy |
Hello Volunteers,
Hope all is going well. Sorry it took me so long to get these pic's to you.
Itsy is doing well, full of energy and full of love. She seems very happy and
has adjusted very well. She's even learned how to jump on the couch, but she
doesn't do it very often. We have discovered that she enjoys books. Not reading
them, but eating them. Well she doesn't really eat them, she just shreds them
into little pieces. We now know that books left on the coffee table belong
to her :)
Have a great week,
Dawn
*A note from HLLL: Both physically and in personality, Itsy has made a full recovery
from her many hardships. We were able to help her medically, but it took the loving
care of her true family to lead her to being the wonderful, happy girl she is today.
Thank you!
|
Abbey and Kim |
She is a wonderful 2 year old Jack Russell Terrier now. She has completed
a basic obedience class and both the beginner and intermediate agility
classes. She has an amazing amount of energy but loves to cuddle and give
kisses. Her favorite thing to do is to look for critters that occasionally
take up residence under our deck or shed.
Attached are a couple of pictures of Abby - the first one is right after we
adopted her and the second is a picture of me holding her last fall -
almost a year after the first picture.
Thanks so much for all you do - she has brought so much love, joy and
laughter into our home. Thank you!

Eba in her new home!
Eva right after entering our program
|
Eva, now called "Eba," is doing Very good! Our first couple of nights were a
little long, as she got used to us and finally started to settle in. She didn't
want to jump into the our vehicle until she realized that getting in translated
into going to Willis Dog Park. Now she hops right into the truck without any
hesitation! She has made fast friends with our 12 year old Border Collie, Frisbee.
She keeps our two cats on their toes except at bed time. The cats sit at the front
of her kennel ... you know how cats are. Eba is about 55 pounds now, maybe another
8-10 pounds but she looks good! People always comment on how beautiful she is and
how unusual she looks. She is still a little bit shy with people, but getting better!
Eba is happy, and so are we! As soon as she manages to sit still for more than 2
seconds I will send some follow up pictures!
Daria
If you would like to help rescue pets like Eva get a second chance at happiness, Please ...

Boots
Boots, What a dog! |
Boots was being worked up for adoption at the Humane Society of Hall County when he
tested positive for heartworms. His adorable face and amazing personality saved his life. Thanks to
the efforts of the staff at HSHC, Boots ended up with us at Lake Lanier Humane League where he was
successfully treated for heartworms. In foster care, Boots loved to play and meet new people, and
had a general love for life that never failed to make us smile.
Boots won the doggy lottery a second time when he found a wonderful family to love.
The family drove HOURS just to meet this scruffy pound puppy and were rewarded with Boots' love and
devotion. The family was kind enough to send us pictures of their new family member.
Here are a couple of pictures of our newest family member, Boots. He's cute and scruffy and is
such a sweet dog. He loves everybody, is well behaved and does not bark much. Come on down to
see him soon.
Love,
Pat, Jim, and Boots |
Hunter and Bob Taking a Nap Together |
My name is Sahra and I adopted a dog from The Humane League of Lake Lanier when he was 10 weeks old.
My dog Hunter is now 10 months old and handles his household duties like a pro with his buddy
Bob a 6 month kitten. Thank You Humane League. Hunter is also a great fit for our White German
Shepard Charley. |
Leo when he came into Rescue
Leo Running in his First Snowdrift
Leo and Elvis Napping after a Long Day's Play |
It has been exactly one year to the day since Sallie and I adopted Leo, so I thought
you would appreciate hearing that he is doing well. He is happy, healthy, and well-adjusted.
Leo is definitely a dog for dog-lovers, as I imagine most Border Collies or mixes would be.
He is very engaged, hard-working and thrives on attention. He is protective to say the least,
but at the same time friendly and gentle with guests. He loves to be outside in our yard
(his territory) and often will spend most of the day out there by choice, sitting on the
deck so that he can watch out for things.
Sallie is no longer working, so it is infrequent that at least one of us is not with Leo and Elvis.
We had another bout with mange in the spring, but we caught it immediatly and were able to arrest
and eliminate the mange using ivermectin. It was quite a project, really. The vet needed to check
Leo's dna to ensure that no reaction would occur, and this involved sending a sample to the
University of Washington in Seattle for testing. Dips were not working, mostly because the
outbreak was on his face, aroung his mouth, and it was nearly impossible to have him hold
still for treatment. Anyway, there is a good chance it will not return now that he's a bit older
but our vet indicated that we need to be ready for the possibility that it could re-occur.
Elvis turned 10 last June. He's battled through a couple of surgeries this past year to remove
tumors but I must say that Leo has turned back the clock on Elvis. The two of them are
inseparable and love to play with each other. Elvis has become a puppy again because of Leo.
I can't thank you and your organization enough for bringing Leo into our lives. I hope you will
not forget my open invitation to see Leo if you are in PA.
I hope to hear back from you,
Best regards,
Steve |
Finnigan
|
Finnigan was known as Brinkley while in the Humane League of Lake Lanier, but got a new name with his new home.
When Finnigan had no name, he was abused and stabbed brutally in the back and side before Animal Control
found him. His injuries kept him from being "adoptable," but a strange stream of coincidences found Finnigan
in rescue. Never have we met such a sweet and loving dog, which made us all the happier to place him in a
home where grandkids would shower him with the love and affection he deserves. Finnigan is such a joyful
addition to the family, that his new mom doesn't even mind the occasional accident in the house. Finnigan
definately won the "Puppy Lottery" when he was adopted by the Moons. Way to go Finnigan! |
Dooley |
After 8 months together, Dooley and I are still very happy!
I just wanted to let you know that he is doing great here. I've found
that he sheds a ton and can be a little aggressive towards other male
dogs but otherwise, he's perfect! He loves going on walks, being
petted, and eating ice cubes. I still can't believe he went so long without a home.
Hope you are well,
Jill |
Ripley and family |
Ripley Believe It or Not Update
Ripley Believe it or Not was just a tiny little puppy when she came to Humane League
of Lake Lanier. She had a broken leg, that she somehow healed herself, so by the time we found her and
took her to the Vet, the little puppy could not have her leg set. Well, she wasn't going to be held back
by something as cumbersome as a gimpy leg, so she decided to completely heal and, to the delight and
amazement of the Vet, the leg healed perfectly straight and strong. So we named her Ripley, Believe it or Not!!
Ripley found a wonderful home, and the family blessed us with an update and some photos of the now not-so-tiny- Ripley
"Ripley is the best dog we've ever had. She isn't afraid of anything. She is great with the kids.
She used to get sick in the car, but I think she is growing out of that. Her only bad trait is she chews!
Usually strings out of sweat pants, a belt, or something left on the floor. Never shoes and rarely a kid's toy.
Thanks for finding her!! We love her so much!"
|
Misty Blue-Eye |
Misty Blue-Eye is as beautiful as she is sweet! Her adoptive family sent to us at the
Humane League of Lake Lanier pictures of the precious Misty along with a very generous donation so that we
can help other pups like Misty find such wonderful homes! Misty has become a part of the family with such
ease, it had to be destiny that brought them all together. |

Boudreax was adopted into a loving family, which he very much deserved after all his trials.
The enamored family almost immediately sent us a letter with
a poem attached expressing how much joy Boudreax has brought to their lives.
